Ashby Winter

I'm looking for a warm winter jacket and i found the ashby winter one (… I don't know barbour very well. I’d like to have space under this jacket for a layer or two or winter clothes, but would a large be to large

Any thoughts or advice on sizing up/down and getting the best fit with this ashby style

Winter wants nothing to do with damon but it all works out eventually. I am deciding between the waxed bedale or waxed ashby for my first jacket and i had some questions I usually wear a size usa men's medium so should i go true to size and get a medium for the ashby or size up because i heard that it fits slimmer than most barbour jackets Also, if i were to get the bedale is the 38 or 40 closer to a size medium?
