I have an atk engine in my '85, took about 3 years to get it all sorted out and one set of working parts in it, though I've never experienced another engine rebuild company that has given me even a quarter of the problems as atk has First one lasted about a month and was belching smoke and coolant.

I contacted atk they told me i had to get the head removed, take it to a machinist get them to say it was bad, remember all of this is costing me money and downtime to try and satisfy atk for warranty. Im looking at atk, golen and titan im not looking an hesco due to the cost I was kinda hoping people that either owner the engines or helped install them would be able to weigh in Do they work as promised Japan direct has partnered with atk north america for over 25 years for supplying us with high quality remanufactured engines
Atk are the biggest pos rebuilt engines i have ever seen, and if japan direct is partnered with atk would send up a big ass red flag to me!!!!
Hughes engines might be able to help you pick components Hughes engines for a low rpm torque motor build on a budget, probably would need stock compression pistons, scat makes them (get the magnum specific stroker pistons, the regular la block is a taller deck). As a shop owner i've seen/experienced enough atk reman engines that i get cold sweats and start to panic when i see or hear atk
