Peoria gets a bad rap for crime, but the crime here feels super mild compared to any central valley city in california, and i live south of war memorial (live north of war memorialis garbage advice imo)
The reality is peoria is a solid little city It has some issues stemming from past mismanagement, but it also has piles of upsides. The south side of peoria has the reputation of cheap housing, poor, high crime, bad schools, neglected neighborhoods, and food deserts Probably not as bad as it's perceived
But housing prices in peoria are very reasonable and traffic is not an issue, so most people who have a decent income live elsewhere. The base is in litchfield az Peoria is a bit east and northeast of the base What about peoria did you like
The low cost of living that used to attract people to move to arizona is dead and gone
3000 a month isn't horrible but good luck finding a place to live for less than a 1k a month that isn't in a bad neighborhood. Peoria has 4 daily flights to and from chicago on both united and american Amtrak runs the lincoln service between chicago and st Louis, which includes a stop in bloomington/normal.
Check out the peoria area mountain bike club, wildlife prairie park and note that the peoria park district has so much land and facilities they can't 'afford' to take care of it all. The seemingly constant news reports of shootings, thefts, and assaults in peoria make me anxious One of the major cons of moving to peoria, for me, is that it seems kind of like a concrete jungle I really enjoy hiking in scenic areas without city noise & visuals
