I'm not given any context as to what caused it to fail, so i don't know how to fix the issue I would like to combine them in one way or another (by merging them or adding the feature of one to the other). The vast majority of the time this has happened to me is when something has invalid geometry, but i've ruled that out.

Please use the native processing merge vector layers tool and not the one from the saga provider.
