To my knowledge the jennifer lawrence effect is a cycle by which new popular female celebrities in particular get significantly hyped up by the media and show up everywhere, which inevitably turns into a backlash against them for being overexposed or overrepresented and just all around annoying for their pervasive media presence. When it first happened i just saw jennifer lawrence leaked pics but didn't pay attention to the subreddit I thought it had something to do with the costumes for the next hunger games or something.
